The Problem We Solve

If you've ever seriously shopped for a full-suspension mountain bike, you know the drill: open The Pro's Closet, then Competitive Cyclist, then REI, then Jenson USA — each in its own tab, each with its own filters, each with prices you have to manually compare in your head. You're spending more time shopping than riding.

MTB Price Agent was built to eliminate that. We aggregate every full-suspension MTB and eMTB from the major US online retailers into a single, filterable list, updated multiple times a day. You set your specs — travel, wheel size, frame material, price range — and immediately see what's available across all sources side by side. Then you click through to the retailer to buy. That's the entire app.

Who Built This

MTB Price Agent was lovingly handcrafted by Shane Trost, founder, owner, and operator of Structurl.io. Shane is an avid mountain biker and side-hustle software developer based in central New York and Denver, CO.

I started mountain biking in 1994, evolving from homemade BMX tracks to a long-trail mud hound on a bright red GT Outpost. I soon realized that the ideal number of bikes to own is always n+1, or, one more than you already have. I've witnessed decades of heavy, clunky suspension bikes, and I'm happy to now be living in the golden age of full-suspension mountain bike technology. I hope MTB Price Agent helps you find your favorite bike and inspires others to do the same.

The frustration of shopping for a new bike across five different websites was the direct motivation for building this tool. What started as a personal project to solve a personal problem is now a live, production app serving the MTB community.

How It Works

MTB Price Agent runs an automated data pipeline that scrapes full-suspension bike listings from The Pro's Closet, Competitive Cyclist, REI, and Jenson USA multiple times daily. For each listing:

• Specs are extracted — frame material, suspension components, drivetrain groupset, wheel size, and travel are parsed from the listing name and description using AI (Claude Haiku)
• A value score is calculated — each bike is scored on its component quality relative to its listed price and current market baselines for that spec tier and category
• A deal summary is generated — a short AI-written explanation of why the listing is (or isn't) a standout value
• Community reputation is synthesized — a brief quote reflecting how the MTB community regards that specific model

The result is a ranked, enriched list where the best-value bikes surface first — not just the cheapest, and not just the most expensive. Bikes with exceptional value scores relative to their spec level float to the top regardless of which retailer listed them.

What We Cover

MTB Price Agent lists full-suspension mountain bikes and electric mountain bikes (eMTBs) only. No hardtails, no road bikes, no gravel bikes. Every listing is a bike designed for off-road trail or enduro riding with a rear shock and front fork.
